A tragic plane crash in Muan, South Korea, involving Jeju Air, claimed 179 lives on Sunday, leaving only two survivors. Families of the victims gathered at the airport, desperate for updates on their loved ones. The accident, likely Korea’s worst aviation disaster, occurred after the plane’s landing gears failed, reportedly due to a birdstrike.

Just moments before the crash, a passenger sent a heartbreaking message to a family member: “Should I say my last words? A bird struck the wing and we can’t land.” The conversation, shared with media, highlights the chaos and fear onboard. A video of the incident shows the plane skidding off the runway and crashing into the airport fence, igniting the wing.

Grief and anger gripped Muan Airport as families demanded better communication from authorities. Many waited for hours without information about their loved ones. “Is it too much to ask for a clear list of victims?” one family member asked.

Firefighters updated families at 1 p.m., confirming that most onboard were presumed dead. Survivors reported hearing a loud bang moments before the crash. A video also captured the birdstrike, which caused the wing to catch fire.

Families are now seeking permission to visit the crash site, hoping to find closure. “She went on this trip to find peace after a difficult time,” one grieving relative said.

This devastating incident has left a nation mourning and raised questions about aviation safety and emergency response measures.
