J&K Tragedy: Pregnancy Death Sparks Protest in Rajouri

Pregnancy Death Sparks Protest in Rajouri

A 28-year-old woman’s pregnancy death at Government Medical College Hospital in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, early Thursday sparked outrage. Her grieving relatives staged a protest, alleging medical negligence by the hospital staff, demanding justice for the tragic loss.

The woman, identified as Karin Devi from Mandir Gala village, was admitted to the hospital after experiencing complications during her seven-month pregnancy. Doctors were unable to save the fetus, and despite ongoing treatment, she passed away around 4 AM, officials confirmed.

Soon after her death, a large group of her family members and locals gathered at the hospital, demanding action against those responsible. The protest disrupted normal operations for some time, prompting senior officials, including Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Raj Kumar Thapa, to intervene.

Thapa assured the protesters that a time-bound magisterial probe would be conducted to determine the cause of death. He also promised strict action if the investigation found any lapses in medical care. Following this assurance, the protestors dispersed peacefully.

The tragic incident has raised serious concerns about maternal healthcare services in the region. Authorities have urged patience as the probe moves forward.
