Breaking Generational Cycles While Parenting Looks Like:

  1. Apologizing to kids for mistakes; repairing ruptures in relationship.
  2. Welcoming & listening to child’s ideas on how to fix a problem.
  3. Exposing kids to diversity & “doing the work” to raise antiracist & inclusive kids.
  4. Teaching body autonomy & consent.
  5. Acknowledging & accepting child’s emotions.
  6. Avoiding labels (e.g., shy, cry baby, clingy, needy, whiny, etc.).
  7. Not forcing kids to eat “one more bite.” Trusting in them to make decisions for their bodies.
  8. Taking care of yourself (mind, body, and soul).
  9. Practicing emotional regulation, especially during difficult parenting moments.
  10. Not spanking or causing harm to children’s bodies.

Break old patterns by apologizing to kids, listening to their ideas, and teaching body autonomy. Raise inclusive kids, accept their emotions, and avoid harmful labels. Trust their choices, care for yourself, and stay calm during tough moments. Parenting with love, not fear, builds healthier families.
