Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova is making a comeback to tennis after a 15-month maternity leave. The 34-year-old Czech player shared the exciting news in a video on her Instagram account. She plans to return to the Hologic WTA Tour later this month, starting with the WTA 250 ATX Open in Austin, Texas. After that, she will play in the WTA 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami.
Kvitova, a former World No. 2, last played at the 2023 China Open. She took a break after announcing on New Year’s Day last year that she and her husband, Jiri Vanek, were expecting their first child. Their son, Petr, was born in July 2023 during the Wimbledon tournament.
In her video, Kvitova expressed how much she missed tennis and competing. She thanked her fans for their support and said she can’t wait to see them again. Before her break, Kvitova was ranked World No. 14 and won two titles in 2023, bringing her total career trophies to 31.
Her return is eagerly awaited by tennis fans worldwide. Welcome back, Petra!
