A devastating family murder rocked Chendamangalam, North Paravur, on Thursday evening, leaving three family members dead and one critically injured. The horrific incident occurred around 6 p.m. when the accused, 27-year-old Rithu Jayan, attacked the victims with an iron pipe.

The victims were identified as Venu (65), his wife Usha (62), and their daughter Vinisha (32), all of whom succumbed to their injuries. Venu’s son-in-law, Jithin (35), sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

According to the police, the family murder was reportedly triggered by personal disputes between Jayan and the victims. The accused claimed the family had insulted his mother and sister, which led to his violent outburst. After committing the crime, Jayan fled the scene but was apprehended by police for riding without a helmet. During questioning, he confessed to the brutal attack.

Jayan is a known history-sheeter with previous charges, including bike theft and stalking, and had been under police monitoring. He recently returned from Bengaluru and was reportedly undergoing psychiatric treatment. Although rumors suggested the attack might have been drug-induced, police clarified that Jayan had been clean in recent days.

The local community is in shock over this tragic family murder. Divya Unnikrishnan, a ward member, described Jayan as a habitual troublemaker with a history of disruptive behavior. Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan has called for strict measures to address potential links between drug abuse and violent crimes.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the urgent need for proactive measures to resolve personal disputes and prevent such tragic events in the future. The family murder has left a lasting impact on the close-knit community of Chendamangalam.
