Rumer Willis, the winner of Dancing With The Stars Season 20, almost didn’t make it to the stage due to a disagreement with her mother, actress Demi Moore. In a recent podcast appearance on The Glamour and Grit, Rumer revealed that when she was offered the chance to compete on the popular dance show in 2015, her mother wasn’t supportive. Demi reportedly told her daughter, “I do not think that you should do this. Like, this is — don’t do this.”

Despite her mother’s concerns, Rumer decided to go ahead and compete, wanting to learn a new skill for herself. Her decision was a bold step towards building her confidence. She teamed up with professional dancer Valentin “Val” Chmerkovskiy and their partnership became a fan favorite, with rumors about a possible romance swirling for months. Though Rumer denied the dating rumors on The Howard Stern Show, she did get a tattoo of the two dancing together, which she later started removing.

As the competition went on, Demi’s opinion began to change. She, along with Rumer’s father Bruce Willis, were seen cheering Rumer on in the audience. By the end of the season, Rumer had not only become a skilled dancer but also won the Mirrorball trophy.

Rumer’s experience shows that sometimes family disagreements can turn into sources of support, and it was her determination that helped her shine on one of the biggest stages of her career.
